Purpose

In 2017-2018, the School of Computing and Information Sciences faculty (tenure and non-tenure line faculty positions) is comprised of 23% women (N=11) in comparison to 77% men (N=37). Furthermore, only 9% (N=1) are minority (Latino and African American) women in comparison to 24% (N=9) minority men. Enrollment of women in Computing and Information Science graduate programs is 22% (N=58) in comparison to 78% (N=208) enrollment of men. Furthermore, there are 43% (N= 25) minority women enrolled in graduate programs in comparison to 64% (N=133) minority men enrolled.

Ultimately in January 2018, a committee was charged to develop a diversity, equity, and inclusion plan to increase the number of faculty and graduate applicants that incorporate more women and underrepresented populations. The committee is committed to six initiatives for the year and are committed to re-evaluating these priorities and setting new priorities every year. As a committee we recognize, acknowledge, and honor the fact that Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion is a journey and not a destination. Improving academic and campus contexts will ultimately create a stronger sense of inclusion and support for both faculty and students.
